Why in Ukraine? Why now?

Thoughts about Ukraine

By: Thad Cummings

What I thought would be a single trip to deliver some medications to Ukraine and connect locals with NGO's has now evolved into one of the largest undertakings I've ever been a part of. People often ask me, why Ukraine, why now? And my only response can be, why not Ukraine, why not now? So when Natalie asked me to sit on the board of Volya Foundation to help support orphans, the only natural answer was a resounding, "yes!". One of the hardest parts about tragedy are those that are left behind. Those tend to be the most vulnerable in our midst - the disabled, the women and children, the elderly. And how we respond to those that are suffering in our midst, albeit in any situation, speaks louder than words ever will. So these strangers that have become friends, and friends that have become family, draw me near. And keep me returning again and again. For the joy and the hope that they give to me, that darkness does not have the final say, in a world that often feels so broken.. it is one of life's treasures that is worth living and fighting for.

So to all my friends and family, both near and far, I simply want to share an encouragement that together, we can all take collective steps to make this world a better place. A place of hope and joy. A place of peace. Won't you join us?
